Rather disappointing. Not very rosey! (2007-02-27)
I was looking for a very full-flavored rose tea. I drink a lot of Celestial Seasonings, so I was excited when this came out. I was disapponted, however, in the lack of rose fragrance or flavor. It tastes more like spice tea, with only the lightest hint of vanilla and no discernable rose flavor. If I had blind-tested the tea, I would have said I like it. But since I expected roses, it was a disappointment.Yum yum (2006-11-27)
After having the strangest cravings for cinnamon lately I have found myself absolutely lost in the comforts of Decaf Vanilla Rose! The essence of the rising steam from my freshly boiled cup smells faintly of creamy rose, cakey vanilla and cinnamon hearts, old childhood favorite. The tea is decaf which makes it perfect as a tasty treat before bedtime but is robust enough to gently rouse my sleepy nose and taste buds even in the grayest of mornings.

I often find myself startled at how healthy and tasty this tea is, not something that applies to many foods and beverages that plague our craving bellies. Decaf Vanilla Rose is more than tea, the contrast of the typical resiny brew married with this wonderful flavor combination makes for a symphony of taste in my opinion that is not to be missed. This is a real treat in my tea cupboard that I reach for often and it’s great with some mini sandwiches or cookies for desert, greatly recommended for those who savor every drop and every crumb.

Vanilla Rose Decaf is an interesting and ultimately delicious tea. The scent is strongly vanilla-cinnamon with a trace of rose. The taste is robust and sensual with the cinnamon, vanilla and rose blending to a creamy richness that is unusual and satisfying. The black tea base keeps it from being cloying. Usually I put cream in a black tea but this one is so rich, it doesn’t need it.

Celestial Seasonings gets extra points for their packaging: they utilize 100% natural recycled paperboard in their boxes and they don’t package each tea bag individually. Instead they use a system of a waxed paper bag inside the box that stays shut when you fold it. It keeps the bags fresh and utilizes less packaging than individually wrapping each bag. They put a caffeine meter on the box to compare this tea with cola and coffee beverages-this tea has 5 mg of caffeine compared to 90 in a cup of drip coffee. This tea has all the antioxidants of black tea without the high caffeine level. The level of antioxidants and information about them would be a good addition. The art they use on each box is beautiful as are the quotes and information they put on every surface. For example that drinking two cups of black tea a day provides as many flavonoids as one serving of fruits and vegetables.

In addition Celestial Seasonings has indicated on the box that a portion of the proceeds of every box of Vanilla Rose Decaf will go to benefit WomenHeart, an organization that works to provide information and raise awareness about the risk of heart disease in women. Apparently it is the #1 cause of death for women.
