Tastes great if you can get past the slimy, chalky texture (2008-03-27)
When I first opened this can of Gatorade Protein Recovery Shake, I was unpleasantly surprised. The most noticeable part about this drink is the consistency of the liquid is incredibly thick. The drink feels oily, or possibly even slimy in my mouth. After swallowing, the drink left a kind of chalky aftertaste in my mouth. I could taste the chocolate flavor, but the flavor is not as strong as I expected. Of course, the reason the drink feels so thick is that it has 20g of protein in every can.

I have not had a chance to try this drink out immediately after exercising, so I cannot give much comment to its effectiveness as a recovery method from strenuous athletic activity. However, the taste of the drink would be enough to keep me away.

I recently tried the Gatorade Nutritional shake, and much preferred the taste of that product to this one. If you are looking for a way to quickly recover protein after a hard work out, then this drink might be a solution. I didn’t instantly enjoy this one as much as I did the vanilla alternative, but maybe this was because I didn’t drink it at the recommended time. They recommend drinking this after a workout or even a sporting event. If you’re not in the mood for a vanilla taste after your workout, then reach for this. The usual protein shakes that I drink, in no way compare to this one. Gatorade’s Performance Serious Protein Recovery Shake (Chocolate) was tasty and the texture smooth without a chalkish aftertaste. In my book, that alone makes it worth buying.

However, it was very filling and stuck with me as well. Impressive.

My only complaint and it’s very subjective on my part was that it seemed a bit too rich and sugary. However, that said, I have no more negative complaints about it.

I must admit, I am not a fan of most of these canned shakes. Having been a former Slim-Fast person (15 years ago) I was not sure what to expect from the recovery shake. I must admit I was impressed with the taste. It was pleasent and not gritty.

I would say that if you are concerned with replenishing your protein after a workout this may be for you. My only gripe; what is with the can? Steel? It is impossible to crush easily, so much for recycling.Just Ok (2008-03-19)
- The taste was just ok. I greatly prefer Muscle Milk which tastes like a treat to me.

- I can’t tell how well it works for recovery since this would take long term use and I didn’t like it enough for that.
